The SAL Blog

Working on the salship.se website

The salship.se website was started in 1998, when my sons and I needed some kind of activity during a rainy summer week. Since then the website has developed into a huge portal and resource about an important part of 20th century shipping and Swedish corporate history. The site also plays a central part in my interest in the Swedish - American heritage.

Lars Hemingstam

I am the webmaster of "A Tribute to the Swedish American Line", salship.se .

I was born in Sweden and grew up in Stockholm, except for the years 1957 to 1960, when I lived and attended school in the United States, in Collinsville & Chicago, IL, and Long Beach, CA. Passenger on the Gripsholm in 1957, and crew member on the Kungsholm in 1968. I have worked in the IT industry most of my life, now semi-retired, dividing my time between acting, writing and Internet projects, part of the time in Sweden and part in the USA. Married to Kathryn, who lives in New Hampshire, USA. We have four children and four grandchildren.
