The SAL Blog

Working on the salship.se website

The salship.se website was started in 1998, when my sons and I needed some kind of activity during a rainy summer week. Since then the website has developed into a huge portal and resource about an important part of 20th century shipping and Swedish corporate history. The site also plays a central part in my interest in the Swedish - American heritage.

Rebels and Redcoats

Thoughts in general Posted on Nov 01, 2010 17:22:07

Two rebels. A vigilant member of the Lexington Militia and webmaster Lars Hemingstam on Lexington Green, MA, one of the sites where the American Revolution started in 1775.

A Redcoat on guard at the North Bridge in Concord, MA, where the first shot of the revolution was fired. “The shot thas was heard around the world”.

The Kingdom of Sweden was one of the very first countries to recognize the new nation after the signing of The Declaration Of Independence on July 4, 1776.

Kungsholm in the Persian Gulf

About SAL Posted on Nov 01, 2010 17:04:02

The efforts to save the Kungsholm as a floating hotel in Gothenburg or Stockholm did not succeed. Still, many thanks to Mr Lars G Hallgren for all his work during the last four years, at great expense, to save the Kungsholm!

The ship has been purchased by a group of investors, to be converted in Oman for $30M into a hotel with 250 luxury cabins, intended to be placed in the Persian Gulf.
